Henry L. Easter was born on 11 August 1862 at Monroe County, Mississippi.1 He was the son of Alson E. Easter and Amanda Maud Neeland. Henry L. Easter married Laura A. Morrow on 19 December 1882 at Monroe County, Mississippi. Henry L. Easter died on 1 August 1948 at Monroe County, Mississippi, at age 85.1 He was buried on 3 August 1948 at Main Easter Cemetery, Monroe County, Mississippi.
History Notes on Henry L. Easter Obituary "Onward goes the relentless march of death. Not in many years has the heavy hand of the Reaper fallen so hard nor removed from the walks of life so many worthy men whose loss will be more keenly felt - whose deeds will be more sincerely remembered. The death on August 1, 1947 of Mr. Henry L. Easter marks the passing of a splendid citizen, who spent his entire life in Easter Valley. His Grandfather, Lewis Easter, a Colonel in the War of 1812, came from Georgia in the early nineteenth century - bringing his family and slaves - traveling in covered wagons, settled and named Easter Valley. Mr. Easter, affectionally known as "Uncle Henry", was born August 11, 1862, married Miss Laura Morrow December 9, 1882. Many years ago this beloved wife ferried to the Shadow Land to make ready their eternal home. Two children, Mrs Andy Baker and Mrs. Eugene Sykes survive. Six grandchildren and six great grand children are priviledged to wear his mantle. He was laid to rest beneath a mound of beautiful flowers in the Easter Cemetary, in sight of the old home where he was born, reared, and lived his entire life. He was a member of the Methodist church and his Pastor, the Rev. T.M. Plunket, conducted a simple and impressive service. His favorite old hymns were sung, led by Mr. Ira Bright and several other friends. Pall bearers were, Ralph Baker, and Eugene Sykes grandsons, Burnell Hollingsworth and Eugene (Trix) Miller grandsons-in-law, Roy Sykes and Kirby Irvin, nephews. Uncle Henry was a christian gentleman of the old school - very pronounced in his views - formed many close personal friends - commanded the respect of those who knew him, and was greatly beloved by a wide and varied circle. Truely, we were happier by his having lived in our midst. A good man has gone and his memory lingers with those who lived with him, as a benediction." RESEARCHER'S NOTES: 1. The death date in the obituary is a typo. Actual date was August 1, 1948. 2. There is no existent evidence that Lewis Easter and his family brought slaves into Mississippi with them. In fact, no evidence has been found for any Easter having owned slaves after the family's migration into Monroe Co. This most probably was due to a poor financial condition rather than any aversion to the institution of slavery. He appeared on the census of 8 June 1880 in the household of Alson E. Easter and Amanda Maud Neeland at Sup Dist 1, Enumeration District 126, Quincy Township, Monroe County, Mississippi.2 Henry L. Easter was was received by "restoration" as a member of the church.3
