Wade Hampton Jr. Gordon married Mary Elizabeth Montgomery, daughter of John C. Montgomery and Margaret Craig, on 13 December 1859 at Monroe County, Mississippi.² Wade Hampton Jr. Gordon died on 27 October 1901 at at his home near Greenwood Springs., Monroe County, Mississippi, at age 63. He was buried on 1 November 1901 at Lann Cemetery, Splunge, Monroe County, Mississippi.
     Begining 27 February 1841 a series of land transactions were concluded in Columbus, Mississippi showing purchase of land by "Wade H. Gordon". These purchases could not have been made by Wade Senior since the probation of his will indicated that Wade was dead by February 1841. At the same time, Wade Junior would have only been 4 years old and could not have made these land purchases himself. Further research of land records of this period show that James Gordon, Wade Junior's older brother, was making numerous land purchases at Columbus and the speculation is that James bought land in Wade Junior's name. To Wit: The West half of the Northwest quarter of Section Twenty-eight in Township Seventeen North of Range Eighteen West in the District of Lands subject to sale at Columbus, Mississippi. Certificate # 25174.¹³ He began military service on 29 April 1862 at Smithville, Monroe County, Mississippi, Wade enlisted as a Private in the 43rd Mississippi Infantry, Captain F. Winters Company, under Captain Vesey. The Company became Company G, 43rd Regiment Volunteers on May 15, 1862.¹⁴ Wade was listed among the wounded or missing after the Battle of Corinth. Wade's 43rd Regiment was consolidated with the 6th and 14th Mississippi Infantry on April 9, 1863 to for the 14th Consolidated Regiment, Mississippi Infantry.¹⁴ He ended military service on 4 July 1863; Wade was listed as a prisoner of war when his Company was surrendered to General Grant at Vicksburg, Mississippi on July 4, 1863. Paroled according to capitulations, they took line of retreat to Brandon, Mississippi, thence to Enterprise. Upon arrival on July 21, 1863, the Company was furloughed for 30 days, beginning July 23, 1863 by order of Lt. General Pemberton. Wade was listed among patients at Greensboro, North Carolina and was paroled April 28, 1865 under orders signed by Generals Johnson and Sherman on April 26, 1865. He walked home after discharge. According to family members, he had two brothers killed in the war.¹⁴ The 1870 census shows Wade and family living in the 12th Township where he was a farmer and sawmill worker. They lived near today's Splunge Methodist Church for several years. Later he bought a farm consisting of 120 acres near Greenwood Springs, close to the present home of Ed Faulkner.¹⁵ He appeared on the census of 1870 at 12th Township, Monroe County, Mississippi; The 1870 census shows Wade and family living in the 12th Township where he was a farmer and sawmill worker. They lived near today's Splunge Methodist Church for several years. Later he bought a farm consisting of 120 acres near Greenwood Springs, close to the present home of Ed Faulkner. It was here that he died on October 27, 1901. He is buried at the Lann Cemetery. He and Mary Elizabeth Montgomery appeared on the census of 7 June 1880 at Sup Dist 1, Enumeration District 126, Quincy Township, Monroe County, Mississippi.¹⁶

     Wade Hampton Sr. Gordon was born circa 1795 at South Carolina.¹ He married Margaret (?) circa 1823. Wade Hampton Gordon, Sr.'s will, written August 27, 1839 was filed for probation on January 7, 1840 so it is assumed that he died in late 1839.² Wade Hampton Sr. Gordon was buried in December 1839 at Monroe County, Mississippi. His estate was probated on 7 January 1840 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi.²
     Wade Hampton Gordon Sr. was a descendent of "William The Red" Gordon of Scotland. Wade Hampton Gordon Sr. was born in Scotland in the late 1790's. Family tradition has it that Wade's father was Robert Gordon's brother.

The exact year that Wade Sr. and Margaret settled in Lowndes Co. is not known. In their westward migration by covered wagon, they had intended to settle in Texas. They settled in Alabama for a time and the next leg of their journey brought them to the Calendonia area in Monroe County, which later became Lowndes County. Wade Hampton Gordon Sr. is listed in the 1817-1830 Lowndes Co. Residents Record. The 1830 census shows that they had 3 sons under 5 years of age and a 40 to 50 year old female (presumed to be either his or her mother) in the household and owned 4 slaves.

The first land recorded in his name was a U.S. Patent dated 19 Nov 1832 which consisted of 80.6 acres in Section 26 (now the Lakeview Hills area). Wade Sr. became a land agent of some substance (his land transactions are recorded in the Lowndes County Courthouse). The 1837 census shows that he had 3 acres of cotton in 1836 and produced one bale. Evidently he farmed only enough to satisfy their needs since his main interest appears to have been in real estate. Land transactions by Gordons date back to 1803 but it is unclear as to how they relate to Wade Hampton Sr.

He and Margaret had 8 sons and 2 daughters. One daughter died at an early age and the sons included James, John, Hilliard, Wade Hampton, and Issac. The Gordons were Cumberland Presbyterians and he was a trustee at the Salem Cumberland Presbyterian Church when it was built in 1838 near the fork of the Military and Wolfe roads. The church was abandoned during the Civil War and later rebuilt as a residence, now located near Mullins Wells Store.

Gordon's will, written 27 Aug 1839, was filed for probation on 7 Jan 1840, so it is assumed that he died in late 1839. It is believed that he was buried in that area, as mid-winter travel, even for burial, was limited. James H. Turner was executor and Thomas T. Moore was appointed guardian of the minor children.

On 10 Feb 1840, Margaret sold to Thomas T. Moore, the last of their property, 120 acres in Sections 25 and 36 for $50.00. (Now owned by three individuals, Wilkes, Ferguson, and Williamson, and the National Bank of Commerce.).³ On on 1 October 1833 at Lowndes County, Mississippi,, Wade Hampton Sr. Gordon bought land. Wade bought a total of 39.5 acres of land from the Columbus, Mississippi Land Office on October 1, 1833 and December 31, 1833.⁴ On on 21 September 1835 at Mount Salem, Monroe County, Mississippi,, Wade Hampton Sr. Gordon bought land. To Wit: The West half of the Southeast quarter of Section Twenty-six in Township Seventeen South of Range Eighteen West in the District of Lands subject to sale at Mount Salem, Mississippi, containing eighty acres and five hundredths of an acre.⁵ He wrote a will on 27 August 1839 at Aberdeen, Monroe County, Mississippi.²

     Watt Gordon was born on 16 November 1899.¹ He was the son of William Abb Gordon and Carrie Brayden Gentry.¹ Watt Gordon died on 12 September 1900.¹ He was buried on 14 September 1900 at Damascus Cemetery, Union County.

     Wesley Edward Gordon was born on 6 August 1878 at Monroe County, Mississippi. He was the son of Wade Hampton Jr. Gordon and Mary Elizabeth Montgomery. Wesley Edward Gordon married Gertrude Estelle Ballard, daughter of Harry L. Ballard and Ella Thomas, on 12 November 1905. Wesley Edward Gordon died on 21 October 1954 at Modesto, Stanislaus County, California, at age 76. He was buried on 23 October 1954 at Acacia Memorial Park Plot Tr 39-A Gr 49, Modesto, Stanislaus County, California.²

     Wilber Milton Gordon was born on 8 February 1920 at Monroe County, Mississippi. He was the son of Jesse Benton Gordon and Prudie Ozema Moreland. Wilber Milton Gordon died on 27 December 1998 at Jackson, Mississippi, at age 78. He was buried circa 30 December 1998 at Trinity Mausoleum, Memorial Cemetery, Jackson, Mississippi.¹
     Wilber Milton Gordon Wilber was a twin of Wilma Gordon on 8 February 1920 at Monroe County, Mississippi.

     William Abb Gordon was born on 14 January 1861 at Mississippi. He was the son of William Edward Gordon and Mary Dorendia Parchman. William Abb Gordon married Carrie Brayden Gentry on 23 November 1886 at Union County, Mississippi.¹ William Abb Gordon died in 1940. He was buried in 1940 at Glenwood Cemetery, Tupelo, Lee County, Mississippi.

     William Edward Gordon was born in 1824 at Monroe County, Mississippi. He was the son of Wade Hampton Sr. Gordon and Margaret (?). William Edward Gordon married Mary Dorendia Parchman, daughter of Aquilla Parchman and Martha Dilworth, on 18 October 1848 at Monroe County, Mississippi.¹ William Edward Gordon married Callie Elizabeth Billingsly on 20 September 1883 at Union County, Mississippi. William Edward Gordon died on 13 March 1905 at Sulphur Springs, Rains County, Texas.

He was buried on 2 July 1953 at Crenshaw Cemetery, Splunge, Monroe County, Mississippi.⁴

     Murry Preston Greene was born on 5 April 1891 at Gun Town, Lee County, Mississippi.² He was the son of Thomas Greene and Cora Flaniken. Murry Preston Greene married Eula Estell Gordon, daughter of Thomas Estell Gordon and Minnie Ann McDonald, on 14 September 1911 at Prentiss County, Mississippi.³ Murry Preston Greene died on 18 September 1951 at Memphis, Shelby County, Tennessee, at age 60.²

     Charlotte Lambeth states that she was acquainted with Enoch Grubbs, late of South Carolina and that he married Elizabeth B. Baker, daughter of Leonard Baker of Union District South Carolina. They had two children, Regina Grubbs and Nancy Grubbs. Regina Easter, formerly Regina Grubbs "is about 17 years old and Nancy is about 15 years old". Enoch Grubbs died in Lexington District South Carolina and in 1848 Elizabeth B. Grubbs and her children moved to Monroe Co., Mississippi where she married Elbert J. Easter. Her daughter, Regina Grubbs, married Lewis Easter. Her daughter, Nancy, lived with her mother and step-father. Baker, Elmira Edge, formerly Elmira Baker, all of whom are from Union District South Carolina, now residents of Monroe County, Mississippi, except Amos Baker. [FN: Certificate of Identity, issued January 25, 1859, Monroe Co., MS:FN] As of 23 April 1850,her married name was Easter.¹ She and Elbert Jefferson Easter appeared on the census of after 23 April 1850 at Monroe County, Mississippi; The 1850 census shows Jefferson and Elizabeth living with four of Jefferson's children; Theresa, age 20; Lewis I., age 18; Sarah C., age 16; and Micajah, age 14. Also listed as members of the household are two of Elizabeth's children from a former marriage. They were Regina A.D.J. Grubb, age 10, and Nancy Grubb, age 6. Regina was to become the wife of Lewis I. Easter. Lewis and Regina would be the parents of William Ira Easter.² Elizabeth Baker Grubbs and Elbert Jefferson Easter were living in 1860 at Quincy District, Monroe County, Mississippi; The 1860 census records for Monroe County require some deductions and many adjustments by comparison to previous and subsequent census. The census taker for Monroe Co. in 1860 entered only first initials instead of first names. In addition, most ages listed for Monroe County, Quincy District, are in error. It appears that the practice at the time was for the person being counted to tell the census taker the year they were born. The census taker would then compute the person's age. The census taker for Monroe County had a great deal of trouble with simple math.³
