     Conley Sylvanus Easter was born on 22 March 1892 at Greenwood Springs, Monroe County, Mississippi.¹ He was the son of David Buckner Easter and Eugenia L. Funderburk. Conley Sylvanus Easter married Rennie Baker on 20 May 1917 at Monroe County, Mississippi. Conley Sylvanus Easter died on 22 February 1960 at Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama, at age 67.

Onward goes the relentless march of death. The heavy hand of the reaper has fallen hard. Another home is enveloped in shadows; its curtains are close drawn. Even the birds soften their song.

It was on November 7, 1938,in the stillness of the night, that Mr. Buckner Easter, age 78, lost the battle for life after fighting valiantly for nearly two years. The death of Buckner Easter marks the passing of a splendid pioneer citizen of Monroe County. He spent his entire life in the Greenwood Springs community, marrying at an early age, Miss Jenny Funderburk; established a home where he lived continuously until his death. Six children came to bless his home, then death claimed the wife and mother.

He then married Miss Maggie Simmons of Hamilton. Again six children came to further bless this home. He enjoyed the blessings of a devoted family circle. Under his guiding hand, his firm, gentle influence, these twelve sturdy sons and daughters were reared. They too, established homes, eleven of whom still survive. Today, including his wife, Mrs. Maggie Easter, forty-two descendants revere his memory.

This grand old man, who by a long and useful life, gathered the full reward of his labors through the esteem and regard of neighbors. He lived a full life and was content. He was buried in the Easter Cemetery situated in a valley at the foothills almost in sight of his home where he had lived for more than half a century. The shadows of a soft Autumn sun fell upon a flower laden mound where all that was mortal of Buckner Easter was left in peace. He was buried on 10 November 1938 at Main Easter Cemetery, Monroe County, Mississippi.⁴

The census taker for Monroe Co. in 1860 entered only first initials instead of first names. In addition, most ages listed for Monroe County, Quincy District, are in error. It appears that the practice at the time was for the person being counted to tell the census taker the year they were born. The census taker would then compute the person's age.
