Pioneer Monroe County Construction Techniques

The old Home pictured above and on the Home page of this site stood just a few dozen yards from the Lewis Easter cemetery. It was known to be the home of Lewis Elbert Easter and his wife Martely West. A close examination of the ruins revealed that the home had been built around the original log cabin erected on this site by Lewis Easter, the patriarch of the Monroe County Easters. The picture on the right shows the precision hand cut dovetail construction used on the original cabin. The sawn boards were added later to replace the mud and straw chinking between the logs. Sadly, the building caught fire and burned to the ground in 2006.
